Episode 8 seemed pretty straightforward ... until listener emails and voicemails arrived. We missed a lot, and "Westworld" fans were there to set the record straight.

Let's take a different look at "Kiksuya" and answer the most complicated questions, including:

  • Is host consciousness the result of intelligent design or simple mistakes?
  • Was the Maze left for Akecheta on purpose?
  • When did Dolores pass "violent delights" to Maeve?
  • Was James Delos actually a fidelity test for William

Apologies for the rough audio on this one. We hope the amazing content makes up for it.

Jun 12, 2018

"Kiksuya" ranks among the easiest Westworld episodes to follow and the most emotionally powerful. But that doesn't mean it wasn't without mysteries to unpack.

How did Maeve communicate with Akecheta from across the park? What did she say? And what was the meaning when you dive a level deeper?

How much did Ford help Akecheta in his journey, and what are the different paths to consciousness?

We also examine Logan's role in Akecheta's discovery of The Door and learn how to pronounce Akecheta's name ... which Big D promptly forgets.

Take the plunge with us, then write in your thoughts at hosts@shatontv.com for Thursday's listener mail Telegraph.

"Kiksuya" delighted "Westworld" fans who wanted the story a little slower, a little clearer, and with a little more heart. But it wasn't without big revelations that tie to the greater story.

In Season 2,  Episode 8, we learn how the Maze keeps showing up in the park, see more of the facility William is building, expand Maeve's abilities, and begin to see what The Door could be.

Oh, and Logan is still naked.

Jun 8, 2018

Episode 7 heats up the Westworld debate as listeners write in to argue Charlotte could be Charlie; Dolores and Maeve are conflicting views of feminism; Angela really could charm the grenade off a horny QA thug; artificial intelligence is just waiting to spring its trap; someone's going to rescue the Man in Black; and more.

Voicemails start at the 1:02 mark and include the possibility we've only seen a simulated world so far, the idea Emily wasn't searching for the Man in Black in the first place, and another freaky message from Driver Bob.

This week's Instacast was extra short, so we made the Telegraph extra long. Bone apple tea!

Westworld Season 2 Episode 7 pulled the curtain from the Valley Beyond, so let's venture there and explore its implications. We'll tell you where it is, what's being stored there, and how Dolores can use it to battle mankind.

We'll also meet Farnold (or Fernarnold), the star of "Les Ecorches," and celebrate how intelligently Westworld re-introduced Ford's control to the series.

Don't forget Maeve and Sizemore! Can we call them friends? Big D makes a pretty good case while Gene bids a teary farewell to Peter Abernathy.

And finally, we'll go frame-by-frame through Bernard's rapid flashback at the end of the episode. Trust us, it's worth the painstaking dissection. Big ol' meaty hints.

Big D called "Les Ecorches" the Thanksgiving Dinner of Westworld episodes, and to many of us it felt like a season finale. So many questions were answered, so many characters may have been killed.

Ford is back in a big way. Bullets are flying. And the Man in Black is getting his come-uppance. But did Season 2 give up too many secrets too quickly? Tell us what you think at hosts@shatontv.com, then join us Tuesday for the Westworld Deep Dive.

First, disenchanted viewers turned their guns on "Westworld." Now, frustrated listeners are setting their sights on us. From who Elsie actually is, to the Man in Black's conversation with Emily, to Emily's real name, you had a lot to say about Season 2 Episode 6: "Phase Space." With more than 100 emails received this week, it's another packed episode of the Westworld Telegraph.

Plus, we get a voicemail from last Telegraph's mysterious Butt Dialer, and one listener argues the Man in Black isn't even a main character!

We're halfway through Season 2, but Westworld isn't showing any signs of fatigue as they blow up some popular early theories, while introducing even more. Gene & Kerri are in Los Angeles celebrating Gene's birthday, so Rog & Big D are left in the studio to break down episode 6, "Phase Space".

In this SUPER SIZED Instacast, the Original Shat Duo use every bit of their old host memory control units (MCU's) to unravel:

  • The meaning of Phase Space and how it may relate to the episode plot
  • Which Timeframes, or REALITIES, we just witnessed
  • The MiB & Grace's mistrusting relationship
  • Terminator Teddy & the Kamikaze Train
  • The End of Shogun World(?)
  • Sylvester & Felix's Bogus Journey
  • The CR4DLE
  • Why Maeve didn't use her Jedi Mind Trick on Akecheta

All these topics, plus the boys play an amazing acoustic cover sent in from a listener, Simon H.

P.S. - Holy sh*t, could Big D's Wild Bernard A.I. Theory be real?

  • What are the three times we see Bernard visit Lab 12?
  • Who is the control unit for?

Westworld Season 2 just keeps getting darker with Episode 4: "Riddle of the Sphinx." Recorded just minutes after the episode aired, this Instacast quickly outlines what we learned and the big new questions everyone is asking.

If you guessed Delos is trying to create eternal life, you're right. But did the project succeed? At least we now know what happened to James Delos.

Elsie's back, and Bernard's killed again. Or has he? Hard to tell with that wacky memory.

And we finally can agree on who Grace from The Raj really is. But how will she fit into the fate of the parks?

Episode 3 is usually right about where listener mail starts getting truly weird, and Westworld Season 2 is no exception. "Virtu e Fortuna" got all the marbles rolling around in our heads, and some fascinating topics emerged:

  • Is Grace from The Raj related to Theresa Cullen?
  • Is the AI creating it's own AI?
  • Was Dolores ever a real human?
  • How would Big D attack Fort Forlorn Hope?
  • Why does Bernard keep changing his clothes?
  • Is consciousness more of a spectrum than a switch?
  • Could the Man In Black's elusive Door just be a passage to another park?

Episode 3 of Westworld Season 2 wasn't filler. "Virtù e Fortuna" is a vital link, the connective tissue that binds the bones Episode 1 with the muscle of Episode 2.

This Westworld Deep Dive explores:

  • Who is the woman in The Raj?
  • What is Ghost Nation's true purpose?
  • Do Dr. Ford and Bernard share a backstory?
  • What did Dolores accomplish at Fort Forlorn Hope?
  • And why did she intentionally slaughter her army?

Plus, Gene fits all of Bernard's Season 2 scenes into a linear story and finds the massive blind spot in it all.

Roger returns to the podcast much soberer than the last episode as the Shatty Trio provide their instant thoughts of Episode 3 of Westworld Season 2, "Virtù e Fortuna".

The world that Delos created has gotten much larger, and so has our Instacast, as we review the introduction of a new theme park, use our high school Latin textbooks to understand the meaning of the title, and ponder the connective plot points we witnessed.

What does "Virtù e Fortuna" mean? What's the new park called? Who's that mystery woman? And how do you say "these violent delights have violent ends" in Punjabi?

Fret not dear listeners, if there's a topic we didn't discuss, let us know and we'll explore it during our Deep Dive episode on Tuesday.

Welcome back, Louis Herthum. We missed you. Now go kick ass.

Don't have time for the Westworld Deep Dive this week? Fast forward start to 55:25 for our most ambitious explanation of how Westworld came to be.

Big D won't call it a theory. It's at least a hypothesis.

Also on this supersized Deep Dive, we'll outline all the time frames you saw on Episode 2 "Reunion" and chip away at Dolores' secret weapon.

Roger treats us to a brain-blasting religious sermon, and Gene takes bets on which characters will succeed or fail

And finally, Big D introduces the thought process that made us question reality, stumble upon a massive realization, then completely lose our composure.
